PILS (Paediatric Immediate Life Support)

Around 17,000 professionals complete Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) training each year — a course ideal for healthcare staff who need skills beyond Basic Life Support but do not require Paediatric Advanced Life Support. PILS equips participants with a range of skills, including managing deteriorating patients, identifying causes of deterioration, treating paediatric cardiac arrest, developing leadership skills, and learning how to be an effective team member in emergencies. The course covers understanding the structured ABCDE approach for rapid recognition of seriously ill children, providing initial treatment to prevent cardiorespiratory arrest, managing children in respiratory or cardiorespiratory arrest until advanced help arrives, and becoming an effective member of a resuscitation team.
